Mandla is a long way from Indore: about 460 km, around 13 to 14 hours by direct bus. Many families drive about 93 km to Jabalpur station and take the overnight train, which reaches Indore in about 10 hours. This page is for families who have already decided their child will live away from home for JEE or NEET, and want to know whether Indore is worth the longer journey.
Why distance is not the deciding question
Once a student moves out of home, whether that is 90 km or 460 km, daily life looks the same: a hostel room, classes, self-study and a phone call home in the evening. What changes the year is the city and the institute. Parents in Mandla, Nainpur, Bichhiya and Niwas usually ask us three things: is the city safe, can we afford it, and will someone notice if our child starts to slip?
Why families choose Indore
Indore is one of the largest coaching cities in Madhya Pradesh, so students live among thousands of others preparing for the same exams. It stays in the same state, the same school boards and the same food and language, which makes the first months away from home easier. Hostel and PG costs are lower than in the big national coaching hubs. And the overnight train from Jabalpur means a parent can leave after work and be in Indore the next morning.
Why a small batch matters most when home is far away
A student who is 460 km from home cannot be watched by their parents. In a batch of 150, a quiet student can lose two chapters before anyone sees it. At Pramana every batch has at most 40 students, and every 20 students have a named mentor who meets each one for 15 minutes every week. Parents in Mandla get a progress report every fortnight by phone or WhatsApp, covering chapter readiness, test trend, attendance and the mentor’s note. That report is how you know, from home, whether the year is working.

Where your child will stay
Hostels near the institute include Rishita Girls Hostel and SK Boys Hostel (see indorehostel.com). A hostel with meals costs about ₹6,500 to ₹15,000 a month, and a PG about ₹4,000 to ₹10,000. Because the journey home is long, we suggest choosing a hostel within walking distance of Geeta Bhawan Square, so the day is spent on study, not on travel. Scholarships: why the test matters more from Mandla
For a family paying for a hostel and long journeys, a scholarship changes the sums. The free online Prashast scholarship test runs from 31 October to 30 November 2026 and can be taken from home in Mandla. It awards tuition scholarships of 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%, and the top 10 who meet the criteria also get free hostel and meals. Scholarships are confirmed after an interview in Indore.
