A drop year is a second attempt at JEE or NEET, with a full year and nothing else on the calendar. Pramana’s one-year Dropper Program runs in the morning at Geeta Bhawan Square, Indore, in batches of at most 40 students. This page explains why a drop year works for some students and not for others, and what makes the difference.
A student taking a drop year has already seen the whole syllabus once. What usually cost marks was not a missing chapter. It was a handful of weak topics, the same mistakes repeated across tests, and time lost in the exam hall. Going through Class 11 and 12 again from page one spends months on chapters the student already knows. Our Dropper Program starts from the gaps instead: concept reinforcement where it is needed, error correction and pattern analysis, intensive practice, and test-taking strategy.
In school, the timetable decides the day. In a drop year, nothing does, and that is where many droppers lose time. Morning classes give the day a fixed start and leave the afternoon for self-study. Regular full-length tests in the exam pattern give each week a deadline, and one-on-one progress reviews turn every test into a list of things to fix.
A dropper who struggled last year often goes quiet when it happens again. In a batch of 150, nobody notices for weeks. At Pramana every batch has at most 40 students, and every 20 students have a named mentor who meets each one for 15 minutes every week. Parents get a progress report every fortnight, covering chapter readiness, test trend and attendance. Problems surface while there is still time to fix them.
Our faculty: Kumar Sir (Physics, IIT Kanpur, 25 years, ex-Allen), Abhishek Jaiswal (Mathematics, IIT Roorkee, 18 years), Kokil Jain (Chemistry, IIT Kanpur, 14 years), Dr Hemant Upadhyay (Zoology, 18 years, ex-Allen) and Rajesh Sahu (Botany, 25 years, ex-Allen, ex-Aakash). The teachers you meet at admission are the ones who teach the batch all year. Meet the faculty.
A drop year is right when the student wants it, can name what went wrong, and has a realistic target. It is the wrong choice when it is mainly to avoid a decision. Our article Should you take a drop year for JEE or NEET? covers the questions to ask first. Our counsellors will tell you plainly if we think a drop year is not the right step.
A NEET dropper who has already revised once and only needs a final, intensive round can join the NEET 90-Day Revision Program instead. It starts on 11 January 2027 and runs full days with 20 tests. The fee is ₹21,000 all-inclusive, or ₹15,000 if you register by 31 December 2026.
The free online Prashast scholarship test runs from 31 October to 30 November 2026 and is taken from home. It awards tuition scholarships of 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%, and the top 10 who meet the criteria also get free hostel and meals. Scholarships are confirmed after an interview in Indore. For a family also paying for a hostel, a scholarship changes the sums.
Hostels near the institute include Rishita Girls Hostel and SK Boys Hostel (see indorehostel.com). A hostel with meals costs about ₹6,500 to ₹15,000 a month, and a PG about ₹4,000 to ₹10,000. Our guide to moving to Indore for coaching covers costs, safety and daily life.
