By Deeksha Borkar, Admissions Counsellor at Pramana Institute
Every year students from across Madhya Pradesh move to Indore for two years of JEE or NEET preparation. Indore is close enough for weekend visits from most of the state, has a large student community near AB Road and Geeta Bhawan, and lets students stay in MP’s school system. This guide covers what families usually ask before the move.
Where students stay
- Hostels: meals included, fixed in and out times, warden on site. Best for Class 11 students living away from home for the first time.
- PGs: more freedom, usually cheaper, meals may be extra. Suit older students and droppers.
- Staying with relatives: works well if the daily commute is under 30 minutes.
Pramana helps families shortlist hostels and PGs near the institute. Families often choose Rishita Girls Hostel (for girls) or SK Boys Hostel (for boys); both are listed on indorehostel.com.
What to check before choosing a hostel or PG
- Walking distance or a safe short ride to the institute
- Separate hostels for girls and boys, with a female warden for girls
- Quiet study hours and Wi-Fi
- Food quality: eat one meal there before deciding
- Written rules on visitors, timings and leave
- What the monthly fee includes (food, laundry, electricity)
Monthly costs to plan for
| Item | What to budget |
|---|---|
| Hostel with meals | ₹6,500–15,000 a month |
| PG without meals | ₹4,000–10,000 a month |
| Food (if not included) | ₹2,000–6,000 a month |
| Local travel | Usually included in hostel rent |
| Coaching fees | ₹1,00,000 + GST per year for the Class 11 and 12 program; ₹1,20,000 + GST for the one-year Dropper Program. Merit scholarships of 25% to 100% tuition through the free Prashast test. |
Schooling
Most students take admission in a school in Indore or continue in their home-city school under the MP Board or CBSE. Class 11 and 12 batches run in the evening, after school hours, so students can attend a regular school. Dropper batches run in the morning.
Keeping parents involved from another city
At Pramana every student meets a mentor for 15 minutes every week, and parents get a progress report every fortnight. Parents from outside Indore can join meetings by phone and visit on weekends.
Before you move
- Take the free online Prashast scholarship test from home.
- Book a counselling visit and see the institute and two or three hostels on the same day.
- Plan the move for at least a week before the batch starts.
